Whether you have 2 cats, just the one or a whole clowder, use our calculator to find out how much cat litter you need.

All cats are different - we have tried our best to include as many variables in our calculator as possible. Therefore, this calculator is only a guide and in reality you may need more or less litter (unless we've got it spot on!). If you have any feedback or ideas for more variables that would be useful to include, please email us at help@tippaws.com.

Tight clumping with superior odour control

Our litter is ultra tight clumping, meaning the granules absorb all the urine that lands on them and clump together to form a ball (or patty) of clumped litter. This litter clump can then be removed without leaving residual urine in the tray, leaving behind fresh and clean litter. Watching extra strong clumping litter form clumps is also incredibly satisfying to watch and scoop!

Eco-friendly natural clumping litter made from plant fibres

Natural litter is often made from materials that are biodegradable and environmentally friendly, such as wood, paper, corn, or wheat. Unlike traditional clay litter, which is often mined from the earth and can contain harmful chemicals, natural cat litter is free from synthetic fragrances, dyes, and other additives. This makes it a safer and healthier option for both your cat and the planet. Natural and biodegradable cat litter can be clumping or non-clumping.

What is natural clumping cat litter?

This type of litter forms solid clumps (lumps) when it comes into contact with urine or faeces, making it easy to scoop out and dispose of. When your cat urinates in the litter tray, the liquid is absorbed by the highly absorbent litter and forms clumps that are easy to scoop out. This makes it easy to keep the litter tray clean and fresh, as you can remove the clumps soon after they form.

Clumping cat litter, also known as clump cat litter, can be made from a variety of materials. Our clumping cat litter, made from plant and wood fibres, is biodegradable and compostable. In our opinion, it is the perfect litter!

If you are not sure if you use clumping cat litter or not, traditional non-clumping litter usually comes in pellets or silica crystals e.g. Sanicat. You need to change non-clumping litter trays very frequently, usually 2-3 times a week.

Note, although technically natural, clay litter (usually clay granules) is also bad for the environment even if it is clumping. This type of clumping litter is made from bentonite clay. It is non-biodegradable and requires extensive mining to produce. An example is Catsan litter.

How clumping litter keeps your home clean

Why we think Tippaws is the best cat litter

Firstly, as you've probably realised by now, we think everyone should use a biodegradable clumping litter over non-clumping litter. The UK has been a traditional cat litter market for years, contribution to significant environmental damage.

Out litter is natural, plant-based and extremely high performing. It has great clumping power, is extra absorbent and easy to clean, leaving fresh litter behind when you remove clumps. Our litter is also low dust / almost dust free.

Looking for a multi-cat litter? Whether you have one cat, two cats or multiple cats, our litter lasts a really long time so you don't have to do a full tray change frequently.

We also offer free delivery and a subscription option - so you'll never run out of litter again!
We love it and we hope you will too!

How to avoid the scent of urine in your home - keep on top of your litter box or tray!

Urine from a healthy cat actually only contains a small amount of ammonia - about 0.05%. This is the same as the amount of ammonia in human urine.

However, cat urine contains about 2% of urea (again, the same as human urine) which is converted to ammonia by an enzyme produced by bacteria present in litter trays. This is what causes that “cat pee” smell we all know and hate!

So what can cat owners do to avoid the situation where you have urea being converted to ammonia in your cat’s litter tray and ultimately have a fresh and clean smelling home? The answer is: scoop, scoop, scoop!

Longer lasting than non-clumping cat litter formulas like clay or pellets

Scoop out clumps when you need to leaving behind fresh litter so you only have to do a full tray change once a month (depending on your cat - please use our calculator!). Our litter has a patented antibacterial formula, so it's very hygienic.
